Tiny North Creek, tucked snug against the foot of Gore Mountain in the Adirondack's, boasts a real bed-and-breakfast find in the Goose Pond Inn. The restored 1894 inn offers four guest rooms, each filled with antiques and collectibles.

Beverly and Jim Englert, the gracious hosts, are more than happy to recommend a good restaurant or hiking spot in the area. And the breakfasts are amazing -Jim cooks up a gourmet spread every morning (his specialty is brandied french toast with sauteed apples) in the inn's dining room, which is stocked with still more fascinating collectibles. And yes, the inn overlooks a small pond, and yes, two friendly geese call it home. Open year round.
